On August 15th, drilling works commenced on the GT-2 geothermal borehole in Sochaczew, carried out by Exalo Drilling for the Przedsiębiorstwo Energetyki Cieplnej Sochaczew sp. o.o.
As part of the project, Exalo Drilling will drill a borehole approximately 1,650 meters deep (+/-5%), using the IRI Cabot 750 Rig 111 drilling rig. The project costs amount to 12.68 million PLN, and completion is planned by January 30, 2025.
The planned Sochaczew GT-2 well will operate in a geothermal doublet system with the existing Sochaczew GT-1 well. The low-mineralized thermal water obtained, with a temperature above 40 degrees Celsius, will be used to produce heat by the Przedsiębiorstwo Energetyki Cieplnej Sochaczew sp. o.o. (PEC), significantly reducing gas consumption by the city’s boiler plants and stabilizing heating costs for residents.
The GT-2 well will also serve an additional function—after treatment, the cooled geothermal water will be supplied to Sochaczew's taps as an additional source of drinking water.
The investment is part of a larger project to build a geothermal plant in Sochaczew, for which PEC Sochaczew received 62 million PLN in support from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management under the Poland Geothermal Plus program.
