The drilling of the Wittau-T2a directional well performed by Exalo Drilling (Orlen Group) realized for OMV Austria Exploration & Production GmbH has been successfully completed.
According to information published by OMV, the exploration well has encountered a reservoir, which is the largest natural gas discovery in Austria in nearly 40 years. The well is located in Lower Austria and was drilled at a final depth of 5,000 meters after five months of operations
In accordance with investor announcements, a preliminary evaluation indicates potential recoverable resources of approximately 48 TWh (28 million barrels of oil equivalent). After full development of the discovery, OMV expects its natural gas production in Austria to increase by 50 per cent.
The work was carried out with the Bentec Eurorig 450 #Rig306 drilling rig.
